Adnams takes steps to reduce footprint
The UK’s first carbon neutral beer goes on sale next month. As the first UK brewer to measure the carbon footprint of its products, Adnams, together with Tesco, has made use of a variety of techniques to create East Green.
The beer is produced at Adnams’ new eco-friendly brewery in Suffolk, which makes use of steam created during the brewing process to heat the East Green brew, and is produced from locally-grown, high-yielding barley. The remaining 1p per bottle of carbon emissions are offset. East Green is packaged in the same lightweight glass bottles as the rest of the Adnams range.
East Green will be available from 28 April, and will retail for £1.79 per 500ml bottle.
Adnams’ Andy Wood will be discussing East Green and the brewery’s eco-friendly brewery at db‘s own industry briefing, Confronting Climate Change , at this year’s London International Wine Fair on 20 May.
