Mozart Distillerie’s range of premium quality chocolate liqueurs from Austria adds flavour to the on-trade and encourages at-home cocktail creation
Mozart Distillerie is providing the trade not only with a range of high quality chocolate liqueurs, but also the means to innovate within this category with the creation of CHOCtails.
This is a new sector within the mixed drinks market, with a number of benefits to those within the industry. Foremost among these is the ability to encourage a return to cocktail creation at home, and consequently an opportunity to further champion cocktail culture in general. While the art of creating cocktails is well established within the on-trade, it is not nearly as prevalent in the home as it once was.
Using various strategies, such as a consumer website, Mozart is encouraging this return to cocktail creation. Plans for this year include a “mix and win” section of the website which not only provides consumers with recipes for CHOCtails, but includes a virtual bartender game and sweepstakes for user-submitted recipes.
The website itself provides a range of recipes for Mozart’s extensive range of chocolate liqueurs, which includes both cream and “pure” elements.
The Mozart range is made up of four liqueurs, all containing cocoa-distillate – the only product to make use of this unique process. Head of marketing, Florian Iro, comments: “Chocolate is until now the most popular flavour of the world, but at the same time cocoa is one of the most difficult and expensive raw-materials to process.”
While both Mozart Gold and White Chocolate contain cream, Mozart Black Chocolate Pure 87 and Amadé ChocOrange do not, allowing for different mixing opportunities across the range. Mozart Gold, containing real chocolate and real cream, is ideal for refining desserts, while the light Mozart White, containing Bourbon vanilla, is an Austrian alternative to Irish Cream.
In terms of “pure” options, Mozart black contains 87% cocoa macerate – the best option for a chocolate Martini. The modern Amadé ChocOrange is a refreshing, and mixable, alternative, increasingly popular in a Prosecco ChocOrange. Iro explains: “We see even more potential in the segment of pure chocolate liqueurs. Without the cream and the cocoa butter the chocolate pure liqueurs are the most innovative segment to be in right now. The high cocoa content guarantees full chocolate flavour and great versatility and mixability.”
The packaging for each bottle of Mozart has a number of quality cues for both the on- and off-trade. Every bottle is wrapped in paper, which is the ideal material to protect the product from light and ultraviolet rays which cause oxidation. In addition to protecting the content, this gives the bottles a striking appearance on the shelf.
For the on-trade, Mozart provides a longer bottleneck which can be added to the distinctive Mozart bottle to facilitate both pouring and flairing. The addition of the re-usable custom neck and CHOCtail pourer make it even easier to provide these cocktails to consumers in the on-trade.
In terms of the CHOCtails themselves – there are endless possiblities, from classics like the Chocolate Martini, to variants like the Chocolate Colada.
The Mozart Distillerie draws on experience as far back as 1770, when Christoph König first built his distillery. Production of this chocolate liqueur was started in Salzburg in 1979, however, when the decision was made to name these liqueurs after the famous composer from this town.
