No sulphites for Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s has added a wine without sulphides to its So Organic range. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stellar Winery will be priced at £4.99, and will be on shelf from mid-March. Modern production techniques mean sulphur dioxide (SO2), added to most wines in order to prevent oxidation and make them stable, is no longer vital in all wines, according to the South African winery.
A small number of wines made without SO2 is currently available on the market but they are not widely distributed. The Stellar Winery Cabernet Sauvignon will be the first widely distributed SO2-free wine.
