Wine looks to Indian summer
Latest figures published by the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ACCII) indicate the market’s growing tendency towards wine – even away from the major urban centres. By March ACCII expects total consumption to exceed Rs14 billion (£178m).
High-ticket imported wine continues on a steady rise, but there has been rapid growth in the production of low cost, domestically-produced wine, which is proving particularly popular in rural areas. According to ACCII estimates by the end of the current fiscal year over 8.5m litres of wine will be sold in India, with over 3.5m of this consumed in rural areas.
