Pilgrimage new label for native varieties

Guy Anderson has launched a new range of Spanish wines designed to “champion” Spain’s lesser-known indigenous grape varieties. Called Pilgrimage, the first two wines are from Bodegas Adria’s vineyards in DO Bierzo on the pilgrim routes of the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain.

The range currently being taken by Tesco include a Mencia and Godello from the 2006 vintage, each priced at £6.99.

“We felt it was about time people had the chance to taste the unique qualities of grapes like Godello and Mencia,” said Norrel Robertson MW, who is responsible for creating the wines in partnership with Bodegas Adria. “Spain has loads of interesting varieties waiting to be discovered by a wider audience, so we are aiming to extend the range as opportunities arise.”
