Draycott to stay at Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s wine buying department has undergone a significant reshuffle, and we are pleased to report that Melissa Draycott, rumoured to be leaving, is remaining at the supermarket in the alcoholic drinks division.

Sainsbury’s were due to be moving Draycott into groceries, but she will now fill a newly-created position as category range planner for beers, wines and spirits.

"My main objective in this role will be to optimise the BWS ranges across all our stores for maximum customer appeal, sales and profitablity," she said.

Her previous responsibilities will be covered by the following colleagues:

  • Champagne and sparkling wines will be bought by Abigail Hirshfeld (existing wine buyer for France and South America).
  • Fortified wines will be bought by Michael Luck (new buyer from confectionery, who will also buy spirits and RTDs).
  • English wines will be bought by Michelle Smith (existing wine buyer for South Africa, Italy, Germany, organics and fairtrade).

"I have absolutely loved my job buying Champagne, sparkling wines, fortified wines, England and previously South Africa," added Draycott.
