Bavaria puts Premium in plastic
Dutch brewer Bavaria are pushing plastic bottles in the UK market. Citing the growing trend towards drinking outside since the smoking ban…
…and the subsequent risk of glass breaking on paved surfaces, the company is bottling its Bavaria Premium in 330ml plastic bottles with ring pull lids.
“Glasses and glass bottles, which can be discarded on tables and even left on the floor, can pose a risk to customers’ safety,” said Bavaria’s marketing manager, Sarah Swainson. “What’s the solution? Plastic bottles – they are safe, convenient and can be easily disposed of.”
This announcement follows a claim by large scale UK club operator Luminar Leisure that it could save £200,000 each year by switching to plastic glasses, while the British government has been considering a ban on glass in nightclubs or drinks served after midnight.
