Swimming in Champagne?
In Britain this summer Piper-Heidsieck is promoting a new serve for Champagne called Piper-Heidsieck Piscine. This involves pouring the bubbly onto ice in purpose-designed curvaceous glasses in Piper-Heidsieck’s signature red. To avoid diluting the Champagne, the house is suggesting consumers add ice cubes made from Piper-Heidsieck.
The suggested serving style may smack strongly of Magner’s Irish Cider’s “pour over ice” promotion in the UK on-trade but Piper Heidsieck insist this manner of drinking Champagne started in the south of France. Making an early début, Piper-Heidsieck Piscine supported the Whitechapel foundation’s ArtPlus Drama fundraiser in March.
