New launch from Torres
Torres has launched a new wine from the Priorat region. Salmos – the Spanish for “psalms” – is made from a combination of indigenous and international varietals, including Garnacha, Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, and has been aged for 9 months in French oak barrels.
Although Salmos will be exported to 35 countries, Torres is specifically targeting the US market, where Priorat wines have grown in popularity. Approximately half of the total production (3,200 cases) has been assigned to the Spanish market with a RRP of €19.90. In the UK, the wine will be available in both the on- and off-trade with a retail price of £13.99.
The Priorat has always been viewed as a mysterious region thanks to its association with medieval miracles and reclusive monks. Torres decided to create a mystery based on the history of the region in order to attract consumer curiosity. The wine was launched following a large-scale treasure hunt in the Priorat region with clues put together by Javier Sierra, Spain’s answer to Dan Brown. The gold letters on Salmos’ back label also take the consumer to www.secretsalmos.es, a website reproducing a monastery, where clues hidden in vineyards, tombs, and historical monuments take visitors on a mystery tour.
