BUSINESS STOCKMARKET: World cup boosts sales fpr SABMiller
SABMiller’s latest half year results had an extra ingredient added as World Cup fans significantly increased their intake of lager.
Lager volumes in Europe bubbled up 10%, with the strongest buying taking place in Poland, Russia and Romania.
SABMiller got a boost from buying South America’s second biggest brewer, Bavaria, which pushed South American lager volumes up by 11%.
In the US it was a different story, with earnings down in the face of Americans lapping up more imported beers
Meanwhile, higher aluminium prices in the US bit into profit margins. Miller’s pre tax profit rose 22% to £723m.
