Angela Mount leaves Somerfield

Angela Mount is leaving her position as wine buyer for Somerfield to pursue a personal business venture. During the last 15 years with the company she has been instrumental in helping the supermarket chain capture a 5% share of the UK wine market.

"I’ve had a fantastic 15 years and it has been a wonderful opportunity to build an excellent wine range at Somerfield. We have developed a range that is as high quality as any retailer in the UK," she told the drinks business.

"However, after a lot of thought I have decided that now is the time to pursue a new challenge and explore other avenues." Mount has confirmed that she will leave Somerfield on March 2 to establish her own business. However she is unable to divulge any further details at this time.

Commenting on behalf of the company, head of communications Pete Williams said: "Angela has been responsible for building the reputation and breadth of Somerfield¹s wine range and generating a high profile for Somerfield as a high street wine retailer. Work will continue to build Somerfield¹s wine range in line with consumer expectations and demand, and to develop a strong own-brand wine presence. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Angela for all her hard work during her career at Somerfield and wish her all the best in the future."

The retailer has not yet decided who will replace Mount, but Williams confirms that further details of the wine buying team will be announced soon.
