Cawdron succeeds cox at punch taverns

November saw the announcement of several changes among the directors of Punch Taverns that will take effect towards the end of January 2007. These included the appointment of Peter Cawdron as chairman in place of the retiring Philip Cox, as well as the departure of Martin Glenn and the elevation of Andrew Knight to the board. Cox has been chairman of Punch Taverns since the end of January 2003, having previously served as deputy chairman since May 2002. He has also served as an executive director of Allders, chairman of ActiveIntranet and Virgin Trains, and as director of Kelda Group and Allied Carpets. He was also group finance director at Asda.

Peter Cawdron is a highly distinguished director who has served on myriad boards. Currently, he is chairman of GCap Media and deputy chairman of Compass and is a director of ProStrakan, Johnston Press, Capita and ARM (it has already been announced that he is to step down from his ARM directorship). His past board positions have included Christian Salvesen, Arla Foods, Lupus Capital, Tetley and Grand Metropolitan.

Martin Glenn is a past division president of PepsiCo for UK and Ireland as well as a director of Leicester Football Club. Andrew Knight was appointed MD of Spirit Group following its acquisition by Punch in January.

There were also board changes at Crucial Plan, where Mike Neville moved from non-executive director to CEO, and John Liwosz was appointed chairman. Crucial Plan has been without a CEO or chairman since Ronald Ayling and Ian Currie resigned in March 2006 along with non-executive director Martin Burrill. John Liwosz is already a non-executive director of Minmet and in the past has been director of operations at Felix Group. Mike Neville joined the Crucial Plan board at the same time as the aforementioned departures and is also chairman of Minmet and Telephonetics as well as a director of GMO and Cellcast. Until August this year he was chairman of Felix Group and, until September, chairman of World Television Group, among many other directorships.
