BUSINESS: APPOINTMENTS – Portman CEO begins consultation
David Poley became the new chief executive of The Portman Group last month, taking over from outgoing CEO Jean Coussins.
He brings plenty of experience to the role, having worked for the group since 1997. Prior to this, he occupied a number of roles working for the Advertisng Standards Authority, overseeing the advice given to advertisers and media prior to publication. This pre-emptive – rather than responsive – role is ideal background for the top job within the industry’s self-regulating organisation. The remainder of his experience is within the market research sector.
Poley’s first major initiative since taking on his new position has been to begin a process of consultation on the group’s Code of Practice. The code was first drawn up in 1996 and was last revised in 2001. “We are keen to hear from a wide range of respondents about the effectiveness of the Code of Practice… It is already an extremely effective tool for self-regulation in the alcohol industry but we are constantly seeking to improve.â€
