On-Trade News: Beringer tops US on-trade
According to the Restaurant Wine newsletter, Beringer Vineyards of Foster’s Wine Estates is the best-selling wine brand in US restaurants, followed by The Wine Group’s Franzia brand, Kendall-Jackson, Yellow Tail and Inglenook.
The annual report is a result of interviews with hundreds of restaurateurs, distributors, importers and wineries in the US, and includes a list of the top 100 brands in this sector.
The list, drawn from the entire range of US restaurants, from chains to fine-dining venues, reported a rise in on-trade sales of 6%, taking it to 64m cases worth US$12m. Despite eight of the top 10 brands being from different companies, the report emphasised the impact of consolidation on the industry, finding that 77 of the top 100 brands were owned by 15 companies.
The Restaurant Wine newsletter is published by wine consultant Ronn Wiegand. He is both a Master Sommelier and a Master of Wine, the first person in the world to gain both titles.
