Sandy Hyslop has been appointed as the new master blender for Ballantine’s. Constellation has named Simon Thorpe MW as the head of its Cellar Door premium range. Matthew Hill is the interim chief executive of The Drinkaware Trust.
Hyslop is only the fifth man to assume the position in the brand’s 175-year history. He joined the whisky industry in 1983 as a quality controller and has been a member of the Ballantine’s blending team for over a decade.
Thorpe joins Constellation Europe from Western Wines following the recent acquisition. As well as overseeing the Cellar Door portfolio he will also be responsible for all Constellation Europe’s wine purchasing.
Hill brings a wealth of political experience to his new role at Drinkaware. He has been seconded from the Department of Media, Culture and Sport, where he served as head of the Licensing Reform Bill Team in 2002, and has also been a private secretary to the Leader of the House.
