Business Appointments: Waitrose and Saino’s rejig
TWO OF the UK’s leading supermarket chains have strengthened their drinks-buying teams. Waitrose has announced the promotion of Justin Howard-Sneyd to manager, wine buying. Sainsbury’s has created two new roles: Jane Hughes has been appointed as BWS business development manager and Warren Anderson as BWS senior manager.
Howard-Sneyd had previously been responsbile for purchasing wines from across Europe and South Africa. This promotion will enable him to focus on developing a new strategy for wine. Waitrose is currently looking to recruit a new buyer to take on some of Howard-Sneyd’s current responsibilities. Mark Williamson, head of buying, BWS, explains, this “will allow us to build on the excellent reputation that we have for our wine-buying departmentâ€.
The creation of two new roles indicates the growing focus on the drinks category at Sainsbury’s. Hughes will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence and overseeing a structured customer communications plan. Anderson, who has 12 years’ buying and planning experience with Sainsbury’s, will oversee the trading team.
