2006 Award Winner – Best Logistics Company
FFG Hillebrand
A diverse selection of entrants, varying widely in size, scope and services offered, made this a difficult category to evaluate, and yet Hillebrand still stood head and shoulders above the rest. With a core business focus as a logistics provider specifically for the wine and spirits industry, FFG Hillebrand provides efficient, effective service – and at a reasonable price. Importantly its success has not affected its ability to give individual attention to clients. A good example of this is the supply-chain management that Hillebrand offers, tailored to each individual client, taking existing logistic structures into account. The company then takes responsibility for supply-chain events, while the client is able to keep track with Hillebrand’s array of management tools. The user-friendly web-based portal, Axis, provides clients with information about the full supply chain, and is fully integrated with the warehouse management software. Another impressive aspect of Hillebrand’s business is its work in finding new markets. The company maintains offices in most of the world’s wine-producing areas. Through its close association with the JF Hillebrand group, it is able to be truly global. FFG Hillebrand easily met the criteria for this award, providing wine and spirits clients with individual attention resulting in an innovative, complete logistics solution.
The Shortlist 2006
EHD London
Specialising in wine, EHD London is primarily a bonded warehouse, but does also provide administration, logistics and distribution services. Cellar21 is an innovative new addition – an online auction site for wines in the bonded warehouse, providing a new route to the UK market for producers, while avoiding the licensing issues that frequently make these products unavailable.
London City Bond
In addition to being a privately owned tax warehouse, London City Bond provides its clients with a complete logistics service. Its clients benefit from a long history (going back to 1870) and the experience that goes with it, as well as a nationwide distribution service. London City Bond also makes use of an extensive online customer information system, providing data about its range of services. In addition to distribution, the company provides warehousing solutions, as well as maintaining private reserves for thousands of customers.
Seawing Landguard International
Seawing impressed the judges as an exceedingly competent company, with the ability to tailor to individual clients’ needs. With its significant size and industry experience, this is a company that maintains a global network of agents, resulting in a flexible, dynamic company. Offering logistics and feeder services, Seawing has an infrastructure that justifies its share of the global wine and spirits logistics market.
Sensible Wine Services
This is a company that cannot be defined as narrowly as “logistics providerâ€. With services primarily concerned with wine-related events, Sensible Wine deals with wine equipment hire, delivery of stock, event staffing, as well as anything else a client might require when arranging an exhibition, roadshow, or other wine event. The scope of the business has broadened even more recently, with the genesis of The Drinks Sampling Company. This is a joint venture with PR company Cube, combining its marketing skills with Sensible Wine’s logistics and organisational skills.
