Up in smoke
This month a Financial Times report has claimed that, since the smoking ban has come into effect in Scotland, on-trade takings have risen.
According to the article, some Scottish publicans are seeing an increase in takings after just three weeks of the ban being in place. The results are thought to be due to more non-smokers choosing to drink in on-premise venues, combined with increased food sales and a faster rate of drinking. db May 2006
