Famous Grouse’s Forest Foray

Hug those trees. The Famous Grouse has entered into the spirit of National Tree Week by launching a whisky matured for three years exclusively in casks made from Scottish oak.
Launched on St Andrew’s Day, The Famous Grouse Scottish Oak Finish links the brand with environmental charity The Tree Council in a project to support the planting of native woodland in Scotland. Helen Potter, innovation and development manager with The Famous Grouse says, “This project has been very exciting and we are delighted with the result, though it also presented some technical challenges along the way. One of these was the selection and preparation of small pieces of cask to go into the presentation boxes with the bottles. By including the whisky-impregnated cask sections a unique sensory experience is created for our consumers.”
The 7,029 limited-edition 50cl bottles, at 44.5% abv, will be available exclusively at The Famous Grouse Experience, retailing at £30. For each bottle purchased the company will make a donation to the Tree Council. db January 2006
