Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico in fraud investigation
The Consorzio has been involved with investigations that Peiro Conticelli, owner of Cavico, has supplied wine from out the region.
The Consorzio has been drawn into investigations that Peiro Conticelli, owner of Cavico, who owns vineyards inside and outside the DOCG denomination, has supplied wine to Chianti Classico producers that is from outside the region.
The Italian authorities were called in to investigate claims that Conticelli supplied non-regulatory wine to producers in the region. Mr Conticelli is under arrest while investigations proceed and whilst the authorities await the outcome of an investigation to be carried out the Consorzio.
Giuseppe Liberatore, director of Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico said "Our priority is to defend the good reputation of our denomination… we are not pointing the finger at anyone".
