Robert Mondavi was honoured for his services to the wine industry by the Institute of Masters of Wine and The Drinks Business magazine at this year’s Vinexpo in Bordeaux.
In front of a specially invited audience of 200 of the most influential people in the wine business, Mr Mondavi was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by La Baronne Philippine de Rothschild.
Mr Mondavi, who celebrated his 92th birthday at this year’s Vinexpo, was praised by Patrick McGrath MW, Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine, for his remarkable contribution to new world winemaking. Mr McGrath commended Mr Mondavi for his innovation and leadership in bringing premium Californian wines to the global consumer.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is the second major award Robert Mondavi has received this year: in April 2005 he was awarded the distinction of "Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur". The Légion d’Honneur is France’s highest Presidential award.
