Risky Frisky Whisky
Glenfiddich has created a single malt Private Vintage bottling for Playboy Magazine.
IN WHAT is perhaps a surprising move for a Scotch whisky producer, Glenfiddich has created a single malt Private Vintage bottling for Playboy Magazine.
The malt, a Glenfiddich Vintage 1974, was selected by the magazine editor, Rudi Raschke, with the help of Glenfiddich’s malt master, David Stewart.
A limited edition of 248 numbered bottles, from a single cask (no. 10245), will be available at €358 (£250) each – and only to readers living in Germany, sorry chaps. Glenfiddich Playboy 1974 Vintage is unveiled in the latest (May) issue of the magazine as part of a feature spread on whisky.
Glenfiddich’s rare whisky manager, Jens Tholstrup, says, “Germany is a really big market for single malt (top 5 worldwide) and Glenfiddich is the best seller.
“We have created a small number of Private Vintages before including a Glenfiddich 1976 to mark the first flight of Concorde, and a bottling for Cunard for the QM2, but never anything for a magazine. We are delighted that Playboy chose a 31-yearold Glenfiddich to be their first ever Play Malt.”
German Playboy is described as a cutting-edge lifestyle magazine featuring fashion, cars and a range of aspirational products in addition to the more traditional centrefold.
