Sainsbury’s last laugh
Sainsbury’s, announced a reverse in its two-year sales decline, with the release of its final quarter results.
JAMIE Oliver’s supermarket of choice, J Sainsbury’s, announced a reverse in its two-year sales decline, with the release of its final quarter results.
Justin King, chief executive of the multiple grocer, said solid performances over Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day had helped Sainsbury’s win market share from its rivals. There was also a considerable boost in business in the run up to Comic Relief thanks to the sale of red noses, which helped attract more customers to the retailer.
Only Oxfam and Sainsbury’s had the right to sell the red noses this year. "The group’s focus on improving product range and availability is starting to bear fruit… but we recognise there is a long way to go and must be realistic about the task in hand," said King.
