UK – Coca – Cola

Coca-Cola has called the recall a "precaution" and said it had consulted the Food Standards Agency, which agreed that there were no immediate safety fears.

Coca-Cola’s ill-fated launch of Dasani in the UK market suffered another setback this month, when the company recalled all bottles after it was found that levels of bromate were found to exceed legal levels.

Coca-Cola has called the recall a "precaution" and said it had consulted the Food Standards Agency, which agreed that there were no immediate safety fears.  It is expected that some half a million bottles will have to be recalled.

Spirit Group has off-loaded 220 of its pubs on a sale-andleaseback basis to Prestbury Investment Holdings.  The company, which will lease the pubs back for a period of 30 years, comprises properties that were acquired when Spirit purchased the estate arm of Scottish and Newcastle last year for some £500m.

The company claimed the deal would allow it to maintain operational control, but use the cash raised to reduce its immediate debt.  It was a bad month for Ballygowan, in contrast, which had to recall thousands of bottles of water in the UK following concerns from consumers who were detecting unpleasant aromas in some of the company’s products.

Although no health risk was found to be posed, the UK’s Food Standards Agency did issue a hazard warning to shops stocking the 500ml packs of still water – the only bottling of the company to be affected.
