Carling goes football crazy
UK league cup finds new sponsor
THE COORS-OWNED Carling lager brand will be the new sponsors of the UK Football League Cup, it was announced this month.
"Last season’s final, between Liverpool and Manchester United was watched in 96 countries and had a global reach of over 250m. As an occasion it re-affirmed the League Cup’s importance in the football calender and the passion that fans have for the competition," said Mark Hunter of Coors Brewers.
Carling follows in the footsteps of its sister Coors brand, Worthington, as the league’s sponsor, which will now be known as the Carling Cup. Football league chairman, Sir Brian Mawhinney said the agreement was "terrific news for the League.
Over the past five seasons Coors Brewers have become highly valued partners to us and I should like to thank them very much for extending this partnership a further three years with Carling."
The brand will invest more than £30m over three years in the league in addition to their sponsorship of the Football Association of Wales, Premiership clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs and Leeds United and Scottish clubs Celtic and Rangers.
