UK wine merchant Majestic has unveiled its new Definition range, which is designed to make it easier for customers to identify classic wine styles.

The new range, which has been two years in the making, aims to provide definitive examples of the world’s best wine styles.

Majestic, which launched a Naked Wines’ click and collect service in all of its stores in April, said the Definition range will comprise 12 wines priced between £7.49 and £13.49.

There will be five whites (Chablis, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sancerre, Sauvignon Blanc), five reds (Claret, Côtes du Rhône, Pinot Noir, Rioja, Malbec), one rosé and one sparkling wine.

The range is intended to be both approachable to seasoned wine drinkers and appealing to new wine lovers who can interact with Definition and develop their understanding and confidence, Majestic said.

“The Definition range showcases what we consider to be the most important wine styles in the world,” Justin Apthorp, Majestic’s buying director, commented.

“Each wine represents the definitive style of its region and they’re produced by some of the world’s leading winemakers.

“Definition is a great way to get chatting about wine with our customers and it’s an easy way to explore wine-making areas and grape varieties.”

Six of the Definition wines have already been launched in stores and online. The other six wines will be launched at the start of October.

Definition is the first range that Majestic has wholly sourced themselves.

Majestic Wine is the UK’s biggest wine specialist, with 211 stores across the UK.

In April Majestic bought the online retailer Naked Wines for £70 million in April and appointed its founder Rowan Gormley as its new CEO.
