Vega Sicilia technical director departs
The technical director of Spanish estate, Vega Sicilia, has left the property after 23 years.
Javier Ausas, joined the company in 1992 and spent 17 of his 23 years working for the estate’s various viticultural properties around Spain before taking up the role of technical director at the Ribera del Duero winery.
His departure was decided on 3 August and although described as a “mutual decision”, the reasons for doing so or what Ausas is going to do next are not known.
As recently as March this year, Ausas told the drinks business of his desire to make the “Montrachet of Ribera” by resurrecting white wine production at the estate.
As per a report in Decanter, Vega Sicilia has said it expects to name a successor by next week.
