Brangelina’s wine in UK supermarkets
Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have released the 2014 vintage of their Provençal rosé in UK supermarkets through Marks and Spencer.

With sales expected to be high and stocks limited, the retailer is urging people seeking a taste of Château Miraval 2014 to “get in quick”.
The premium rosé is priced at £18 and hails from the Château Miraval estate, where the couple got married last year. They purchased the estate in 2008, reportedly for around US$55 million.
Previously only available through independent merchants, the wine will be available across the UK for the first time.
Described by the retailer as an “intriguing pale pink rosé with strawberry, white pear and floral aromas”, the rosé is made in partnership with famed Château de Beaucastel owners the Perrin family.
The brand was launched in March 2013 with the 2012 vintage, which wine critic Thierry Desseauve described as boasting “energy and dynamism, with persistence and freshness” due to its “expressive fruit”.
The wine is made from a blend of organically grown Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault
Emma Dawson, wine buyer for Marks and Spencer, said “We’re excited to be launching what could well be the most famous rosé in the world.
“Not only does Miraval boast A-lister owners, it’s a really lovely crisp rose, perfect for summer drinking.”
As famous as Mateus Rose – I doubt it. A nice touch at 18 pounds.
This is a monstrous amount of money for a Rose from Provence.
It seems a pity that celebrity endorsement ensures a premium over dedicated wine makers from many other good producers in the region.
Wonder how Brangelina Rose would fare in a blind tasting against other local competition?
Wine maker ‘Valerie’ at the nearby Montfort co-operative produces jolly good stuff which has won gold and silver medals from Paris this year.
Of course rosé from Provence can demand a premium price, it is what they’re known for. As for this being a monstrous amount of money to pay for such a product, I’d have to completely disagree. It’s a well balanced wine with beautiful fresh but firm acidity lended to it by the Grenache. The fruit is extremely expressive of the region and its wines. The colour is a gorgeous pink, far from being slightly copper tinted like some of the wines from the region. The packaging is beautiful and graceful, ever so slightly different (more along the lines of champagne). These guys aren’t making the wines themselves, they have the Perrin family doing that for them with a lease that has potential for someone to buy the chateau (and at 60 million for 150 HA in the south, that isn’t too hefty an amount). Through these guys, “Brangelina” as they’re most commonly known these days, have created a wine that is easy to drink, perfectly provence, exciting and innovative, a wine that I’m sure they’ll be drinking with their friends on a beach in the south of France, ice cold with tuna tataki. Let’s be honest if you have the choice of drinking anything, yet you’re drinking your own brew, it’s going to be good.
