Jacob’s Creek creates wine for USA
Jacob’s Creek has employed Napa winemaker Ehren Jordan to help make a new range of Australian wines specially crafted for the US market.
Two Lands represents a “Californian expression of Australian wine”
Called Two Lands, the label represents a “Californian expression of Australian wine”, according to Jacob’s Creek chief winemaker Bernard Hickin, who worked with Jordan on the project.
The range comprises a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot Grigio and will launch exclusively in the US from 1 March for US$13.99.
Jordan, who travelled to South Australia to help make the wines, said that the collaboration had allowed him “to work with flavours not normally available in North America and craft them into wines in the style that we so love to enjoy”.
Hicken added, “We are two individual winemakers united by a shared vision: to capture the best of our two lands – Australian fruit character and Californian craft – in a single bottle.”
Tasting notes supplied by Jacob’s Creek suggest the wines may have a slightly more overt oak character than other Jacob’s Creek reds and Chardonnays, while the Pinot Grigio is described as having “a delicate sweetness on the finish”.
The new US-specific wine follows other projects for certain markets and occassions, including Jacob’s Creek Wah white and red for Japan and Lamoon for pairing with Thai food.
Jacob’s Creek brand owning company Pernod Ricard invested in Californian winemaking operations in April last year when it bought Kenwood Vineyards in Sonoma.
