Ex-Diageo boss in line for F1 chair?
Former boss of drinks giant Diageo is thought to be the front-runner to become the next chair of Formula One racing.
Former Diageo chief executive, Paul Walsh
According to reports by Sky News and the Financial Times, Paul Walsh, the former chief executive of Diageo, has been approached about becoming the next chairman of F1.
CVC Capital Partners, the private equity group which owns 35.5% of F1, is rumoured to be eyeing up Walsh to take on some executive duties, as well as chairing the F1 board, replacing Peter Brabeck-Letmathe.
Walsh, 57, is thought to be one of a small number of candidates up for consideration. A board meeting is due to take place early next week when it is thought an appointment will be announced.
A trained accountant, Walsh worked at GrandMet and InterContinental Hotels before becoming chief executive of Diageo, which owns brands such as Johnnie Walker and Guinness, in 2000.
He retired from Diageo earlier this year and was succeeded by Ivan Menezes. In September, Johnnie Walker became a global F1 partner.
