Accolade makes move on Grant Burge
Accolade Wines has confirmed that it is in “exclusive discussions” to buy Grant Burge Wines, the latest sign of consolidation taking place within Australia’s wine industry.
The company, whose portfolio includes Hardys and Banrock Station among others, released a statement to confirm its interest in the Barossa producer, but added: “There is no guarantee that a final agreement will be reached as a result of the discussions.”
The move comes within weeks of another major Australian producer, Casella Family Wines, moving to acquire a majority stake in Barossa business Peter Lehmann Wines.
A fifth generation family owned business, Grant Burge produces a broad range of wines from across South Australia, with a particularly strong reputation for its Barossa fortified expressions and “icon” wines such as Meshach Shiraz.
This latest move from Accolade comes on the back of significant investment from its owner Champ Private Equity, including a £10 million injection to build the Hardys brand worldwide and an £11m bottling line extension at the producer’s UK facility.
