IMW draws 450 wine pros to Florence
Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) Jean-Michel Valette MW welcomed 450 wine professionals to Florence today for the eighth MW symposium.
The symposium, which is a sell-out, has attracted attendees from 33 countries to the Palazzo dei Congressi in the heart of Florence, making this year’s symposium the most geographically diverse in the IMW’s history.
Valette urged attendees of the symposium to “be excellent” and “be awesome” as he began proceedings.
He also told the audience that as many as 120 Masters of Wine were present at the symposium, representing almost half the total of 314 members, which hail from over 20 countries.
The mayor of Florence was also present at the opening, and expressed his gratitude to the IMW for choosing the city for this year’s symposium.
“I am honoured and proud that the Institute of Masters of Wine have chosen Florence to host this extraordinary event…. which for the first time is taking place in Italy,” he said.
Continuing, he commented, “Wine is still one element that makes our country a beloved destination for visitors from around the world.”
