Around the Grounds in 14 days: Day five
Day five saw The Benevolent’s Chris Porter cross his fundraising target of £10,000, with the total amount raised set to be matched by wine merchants Farr Vintners, as he continued his 14-day challenge to visit all 91 of the UK’s league grounds without a car.
Today the chairman of the charity started his journey, on what proved to be a gloriously sunny day, in Birmingham City where he met local wine merchant, cycling fanatic and Villa fan Chris Connolly of Midlands WSTA.
Then, still accompanied by Chris Connolly, Chris made his way to the grounds of Aston Villa….
…. before pedalling into Walsall FC where he was given a warm reception by the Walsall FC web editor Andrew Poole and John Rushton, former Buying Director at Whittalls in Walsall.
Having left Walsall Chris arrived in West Bromwich Albion, where he was given the news of having reached his fundraising target of £10,000, before continuing to Wolverhampton. This afternoon he was just to take in the football stadium sights of Shrewbury Town, Stoke City and Port Vale before finishing the day at Crewe Alexandra.
All money raised will go toward The Benevolent, a charity which supports members of the drinks industry. To make a donation, click here.
