Rémy Martin announces GQ Awards sponsorship
Rémy Martin has announced it will be the lead spirits sponsor at this year’s GQ Men of the Year Awards, which will be held in London next month.
The R&G and R&GQ cocktails
A cocktail, called the R&G, has been created for the awards and will be served at the main ceremony along with other specially created cocktails. Rémy will also be serving cocktails at a bespoke bar at the after-party on the Royal Opera House balcony.
As well as being the spirits sponsor for the awards, Rémy is sponsoring the “Breakthrough Award”, which recognises the “best newcomer to the scene”.
The winner of last year’s breakthrough award was Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, who became a huge hit in Hollywood in 2012.
In a statement Rémy Martin said: “The 2013 Rémy Martin Breakthrough Award heralds the arrival of a person who’s making the headlines for all the right reasons. Just as Rémy is the cognac that breaks tradition, so the winner of this prestigious decoration is somebody who’s already shaping our future.”
Rémy’s mixologists were asked to create the “perfect Cognac cocktail’ for this year’s awards and decided on the R&G, which is 50ml of Rémy Martin VSOP, ginger ale to top up and a lemon peel garnish, which is poured into a high ball over ice.
Another cocktail that will be on offer at the awards is the R&GQ, which is 35ml of Rémy Martin VSOP, 20ml of lemon juice, 15ml of bottle green ginger and lemongrass syrup plus very cold British ale. This is served in a half-pint tankard “complete with a frothy head.”
The 2013 GQ Awards take place on 3 September at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
