This London restaurant is raising money for flood victims in southern India

Sri-Lankan restaurant Hoppers has announced plans to raise money for flood victims in Kerala with a special edition vegetarian feat at its Soho site.

Hoppers will donate £1 from every bill to help relief efforts in south east Asia.

The vegetarian lunch will be priced at £30 per head. All proceeds raised from the lunch will go directly to relief efforts in the region.

Hoppers will also auction a feast for 8 guests at their St Christopher’s Place restaurant via Instagram in a bid to raise money for foreign aid through charity Plan India.

Hoppers executives said that both its Soho and Marylebone restaurants will collect £1 from every bill in September to donate the cause.

Devastating floods killed more than 400 people and engulfed entire towns in Kerala, India, in what has been called the worst flooding in over a century, according to Reuters.

Nearly a week after the floods began in south east Asia, houses in low-lying areas of Kerala are still submerged, roads are waterlogged and the sewage from drains have washed into channels that are too slow-moving to effectively flush out the effluent.

Director Karan Gokani says, “We were devastated to hear about the recent floods – lots of our staff are from Kerala, and so much of our food at Hoppers is inspired by the area’s culture and cuisine, so this is a cause very close to our heart. Our sadya is a way for us to give something back to that community at its time of need.”
