Brewery generates support for hung parliament

While the UK’s political parties and their policies might be leaving voters unimpressed, there is at least a beer that has gained the unanimous support of landlords.

Howard Town, a microbrewery in Glossop, Derbyshire, has created a limited edition “Hung Parliament” ale for the election, which consumers will be able to sip as the results come in.

Tony Hulme, the brewery’s owner, described the beer as: “A labour of love, liberally hopped and with a conservative fruitiness.”

He added: “The three parties may be divided over lots of issues, but I’m sure Brown, Cameron and Clegg would agree that this is a super beer – the kind that’s made this country great.”

Howard Town has had success with its beers before. Two years ago its “Wren’s Nest Bitter” won the Society of Independent Brewers Champion Ale award.

The landlords of the Babington Arms in Derby, the King’s Arms in Salford and the Crown Inn in Stockport, who will all stock the beer, have greeted it enthusiastically.

Hung Parliament is available on draft and in bottle in both pubs and selected outlets in the north of England and the Midlands.
